A Day Job colleague pointed out another Web 2.0 lacking-final-vowel service, just in time for Christmas: GiftClustr.com
While I’m sorely pressed for wanting anything — thanks for asking — I think the interface is just the gift churches need. That is, churches with Web sites where there is a benefit for registering. How?
It is one of a new kind of site which asks a new user a modest amount of information to get started: in this case, just name, email address and a password of one’s own choosing. (And it’s a good idea to have a nonsecure disposable password to share with sites you have an imperfect trust of.)
- This is better than giving anonymous users full run of the site because it creates a small measure of accountability on the part of the user. It also makes for a lead for the church’s extension arm.
- This is better than asking too much information, like mailing address or survey question — at least at first — because you’re prone to lose casual inquirers with too many demands.
